The World Bank and International Finance Corporation (IFC) released their Ease of Doing Business rankings and countries on the Pacific Rim are faring quite well. Of the top 10 countries 6 are from the Pacific Rim region with Singapore and Hong Kong leading the way.
The two countries also lead the “Trading Across Borders” category with South Korea 3rd. UAE ranks 4th which is promising given that the Emirates is a prosperous trading hub for the Middle East region with Dubai creating several free trade zones for more efficient and effective trade with the region for exporters from other countries. The one red herring however is that UAE ranks 100 out of 189 in enforcing contracts. A deeper dive into the data shows a 524-day dispute resolution time for contract enforcement.
